Birthday Cake, Plus My Favorite Giveaway, Starring PPKers

Justify Full
There is lots to celebrate at my parents' home these days. Over the course of the week: their granddaughter (my niece!) visiting, Thanksgiving, the fact that the granddaughter just might remember Thanksgiving this year, my father's birthday, my parents' anniversary, and the first day of Hanukkah. Most of these occasions, if not all, call for celebratory desserts. The dessert above is the cake I made for my father's birthday, a raspberry blackout cake with ganache frosting from Vegan With a Vengeance. I would say this went over well. In fact, my mother sat on the kitchen floor for some time scraping leftover ganache from the pan with a spatula. It was kind of awesome . . . as was seeing my niece eat chocolate cake for the first time ever.

Today is my favorite giveaway of the month, because it's starring the PPK. First I want to plug the stars' websites and etsy shops, because they are working hard and putting out great products and I hope you'll support them. First up, Soyfucker quarterly comic zine created by vegan writers and artists. These are awesome and you'll want every issue. Next please head over to the home of friendly monsters and tofu pirates at Panda with Cookie. You will want to feast your eyes on the delicious cookies at the companion shop Panda with Cookie Bakes. You may need them in your stomach, especially if you have a hungry monster or pirate to feed. Since you are already on etsy, you must check out the lovely cards at Chirp Cards. More great cards and art can be found at ilikeapplejuice.

So now let me tell you what the winner will win today. I have for you:
  • killer Soyfucker Zine volumes one and two from Erica Soyfucker and friends
  • pandaful tofu pirate pin and and panda pin from the fantastic panda with cookie
  • adorable hedgehog card from Tahinitoo
  • fabulous Heartkite and Saints and Sinners cards plus two great stickers from ilikeapplejuice

supplemented with: one smiling Oregon cloud magnet (you know you love rain), one package Butlers Soy Curls, six Primal Strips in different flavors, two coupons for free Turtle Island/Tofurky products, one coupon for a free Earth Balance product, one cute Amy's blue tote bag, one Amy's pen, and cents off coupons for Tofutti, Follow Your Heart, and Bubbies products.

Interested? The giveaway is open to everyone everywhere, from Philadelphia to Graz to Manila and all points in between. To enter, tell me about a PPKer you like, or a PPKer's art/craft project/recipe/whathaveyou that stuck with you, or tell me anything at all. Note: This does not mean pick your favorite PPKer. Who wants to do that? Not me. There are lots of nice ones. Tell me about one of them. The winner will be chosen by random number generator and posted on tomorrow's blog post. If the giveaway is won by an overseas entrant, I'll choose a US winner for the coupons by random number generator and post the second winner tomorrow as well.

  11. BEST GIVEAWAY EVER. It seems like everyone on the PPK is so nice and wonderful. I love when I meet PPKers in real life and we exchange names; there's that instant feeling of being with a good friend, even though we've never seen each other before.

  12. Oh, pick me! These people are so creative its not funny!
Since the boards changed I feel like I'm still learning who everyone is again, even if they haven't changed their names!

  13. Pandacookie's pirate bunnies never cease to make me smile.

  14. When I first went vegan, before I even knew what a "PPK" was, I ended up with the classic seitan recipe from it. All these years later, now with full knowledge of the PPK, Isa, Terry, and many many other seitan recipe options, that original one I got from the PPK website remains my favorite of all time.

  21. I am a terrible online vegan & don't hang out at the PPK forums at all (too many other distractions, ack), but I love all the recipes I've found myself w/off the forum (linked elsewhere--they just find their way to me!), & of course Isa & Terry's cookbooks...

  22. Of course the name escapes me at the moment and it's hard to choose just one ppker because they are all so crafty but the one that sticks out most in my mind is that cute handdrawn 2011 calendar, here's to a great 2011? Or something like that. All the drawings are cute animals dine Ina really neat almost dot style. I love it!

  25. I'll nominate Veg_Eric as my favorite PPKer. Probably entirely because of this thread: http://forum.theppk.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2904. That's one of the nicest, sweetest, most thoughtful things I've seen in a long time.

  26. So many favorite PPKers...I don't know if I could chose just 1! I think I'll go with Interrobang?! because we both like to Watch Dr. Who. But really, I love everyone and especially love our PPkuddle puddles :)

  27. That cake looks heavenly! For the moment my favorite PPKer is Kmouse since her spinach-artichoke dip made my Thanksgiving.

  28. I SO heart the PPK. I had to go on a temporary hiatus due to nursing school, but I'm done in 17 days. YAY!

  29. oh my GAWD! this is totally the most bestest giveaway!! I want to win! I want to win! I really love the PPK. It's amazing and maybe a bit crazy how much it's improved my life. I have met so many real-life friends through the PPK, and I have a ton more out there that i have yet to meet. Hoorah! I don't want to pick favorites though, because I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. I have met Erika and Panda, though, so that's lucky for me! :)

  30. Eek?? I have to pick just one?? I think pandacookies things are adorable, and we had an impromptu meeting at the co-op one day, so she gets points for that, too. I'm also a big fan of my Potlucking PPK buddies, ismloveyoubobbybrown (who crochets beautifully by the way), and bazu (is she even on the new boards?).

  31. This is probably my favorite cake. I love love love it and haven't had it in far too long.

  35. i wish i could shrink the entire ppk down to peppercorn size and gather them up so i could hug all of them at once. but in terms of stand-out craftiness, i was always wowed by rachelrayforever's line drawings. his style was so distinctive and refined. and his danishes were pretty amazing, too.

    ReplyDelete
  36. the ppk is just the best! thank you for having a ppk-centric ppk-crafy ppk-lovefest giveaway. that is all.

  37. I have to give props to Tofulish. She's one of the most sensitive and caring PPKers and she remembers everything! Just when you think people have forgotten about the X terrible thing you went through recently, Tofulish is there to ask "how's that going?" She's awesome.

And I have to say I generally love all the PPKers.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Oh wow, what a giveaway this one is! I would looove to win this one :)

  39. There are so many awesome ppkers, but I have to say how excited I am to have first-hand experience with all three of the ppkers in this giveaway! I have bought several shipments of flannel pads from Erika (soyfucker), and pandacookie sent me cookies once when Mr. Nummers had cancer, and a couple years ago I ordered a door hanger from ilikeapplejuice that still hangs on my bedroom door. It says "Making Out: Do Not Disturb" on one side, and "Reading the Bible (by God): Do Not Disturb" on the other side. Yay ppkers! Woo!

  40. So many goodies! Oh how I wish I could have but one. PPKers are so awesomely creative and industrious. They keep pumping out content/products with such appeal and heart.
